Invisalign is one of the most popular teeth straightening methods available. They’re discrete, comfortable and easy to take care of.
But how do you make sure you look after them properly?
The Whitehouse Dental Clinic team are here to give you six easy-to-follow tips to make sure your Invisalign braces stay clean and effective during your treatment.
This tip is first for a reason. Keeping your aligners clean is paramount to maintaining healthy teeth and gums and making sure your Invisalign braces do their job. All you need to do is brush them morning and night with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush to remove any built-up bacteria. Try to get into the habit of doing this as soon as you can so it becomes second nature.
You should be wearing your Invisalign braces for a minimum of 22 hours per day, removing them to eat and drink anything other than water. When you remove them during the day, make sure to rinse them with water before placing them in their case. This helps remove any saliva and plaque build-up, reducing the likelihood of infection in the mouth.
Before eating you must take out your aligners to avoid staining or damaging the brace. You should also take them out if you’re drinking anything other than water. With Invisalign braces, this is easy to do and can be done quickly and discreetly.
While Invisalign braces have their benefits, the ugly truth is that they can start to smell if not taken care of properly. By soaking your aligners in lukewarm water and Invisalign cleaning crystals for 15 minutes, you can keep them hygienic, stain-free and odour-free. Simply brush them over with a soft toothbrush before putting them back in or in their storage case.
You will be given a storage case when you’re given your Invisalign braces for at-home use and when you’re on the go. When you take them out to eat or to brush your teeth, make sure to put them in their case. This keeps them clean, away from damage and makes sure you don’t lose them.
Last but not least, don’t forget about your oral hygiene routine. While aligners can straighten misshapen teeth, you must take care of your teeth and gums to maintain your oral health. Brush twice a day, use mouthwash and don’t forget to floss. If you need any advice on how to do this properly, speak to one of our team during your next visit and we can give you some tips on how to look after your teeth at home.
