Quality family dentistry in Richmond for over 25 years

5th April 2015

On April 1st this year, I celebrated owning the WhiteHouse for 25 years.

A quarter of a century, nearly all of my adult life, gone in the blink of an eye.

What was happening in 1990?

I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to practice in such a beautiful part of London with such charming and loyal patients for over 25 years at our dentist in Richmond.

When I took over in April 1990, the practice was located at 175 Kew Road. I took the practice over after David Miron, the previous principle, tragically died. The practice was started by his father in 1936 and I still vividly remember treating two elderly ladies (now sadly passed away) who had been with the practice since it opened!

David had a fantastic patient list and I am extremely privileged to be treating a large number of them still today! The kids I treated as part of our family dentistry in Richmond then are now married with their own children…. Where does the time go? In those days, Richmond was a totally different town. It was populated by many more people who had lived there for large parts of their lives and it certainly had a more relaxed feel.  As time has moved on, a lot of those people are no longer with us and now we have a lot of patients transiently pass through Richmond as they have careers that take them around the world.

Back in 1990,  I ran the clinic through a couple of A4 appointment books, we developed our x-rays in the cupboard under the stairs and no one had a mobile phone unless you were a zillionaire. I had one receptionist/nurse ( 2 part time girls, Anita and Angela) and dentists were not allowed to do any type of advertising other than a listing in the Yellow pages. In fact, even your surgery name plate had to be a certain size! I remember distinctly having a slightly larger than regulation name plate (about 2 inches longer and taller) placed outside. Someone reported me to the GDC for a gross breach of regulations and I had to take it down!

Things were basic in the 90’s and it was only when we moved to 320 Kew Road in 2001 did I have a chance to build a surgery that was state of the art and even now, we are constantly renewing equipment and re-innovating to ensure we can deliver the best for our valued patients.

When I moved in 2001 as my budget run out, I could only afford suspended ceilings. This has proved to be the smartest thing I did as every year we have another couple of dozen cables to run above the ceiling as new equipment demands new cabling to allow things to be networked and run.

Today, the Whitehouse is a state of the art clinic. We have digital x-rays, make our own CAD-CAM all ceramic crowns in one visit, we specialise in dental implants in Richmond, have an amazingly hard working and loyal team of dentists, staff, nurses and hygienists and can provide top quality dentistry.

All of this is possible because of you, our loyal patients. I would like to thank you all for your support over the last 25 years. It is humbling that you had confidence in a young 24 year old dentist and I sincerely hope to carry on looking after you all for many years to come.
