From Jason’s Desk

Its been 4 months since the last newsletter. Despite the economic downturn, we are still as busy. Teeth, unlike property, don’t seem to have boom and bust periods!

Since last writing, I have been on the lecture circuit, giving lectures for Straumann, the world’s biggest dental implant company, to dentists wishing to pursue this speciality.

I have also been privileged to be elected a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. This charitable foundation is invitation only and its fellows are mainly academics from the European Dental Schools. There are only 65 UK elected fellows, so it was indeed an honour to be presented in front of 400 fellows at a presentation in the Zappeion Hall in Athens. This building was originally constructed to hold the first modern Olympic Games.

Magda and Fitsum are both expecting babies and will be off on maternity leave soon. Val, my other nurse will join my clinic and we have a fantastic Maternity cover for Fitsum. Elizabeth is also working Thursday afternoons as well as mornings to help create more hygiene slots.

Inman Aligner

We are 1 of only 50 registered practices in the UK to be offering the Inman Aligner. Over the years I have been asked by numerous patients if we can correct mild crowding of either upper or lower front teeth, without resorting to 2 years of fixed braces. The answer now is YES!!! We can straighten lower incisors with a removable Inman Brace in as little as 6 weeks. In the past people with crooked teeth have had only a limited number of choices. Fixed braces and clear braces work well but are slow and can also be costly especially when only the incisors are crooked.

Because of this many people choose to have porcelain veneers instead. This often involves heavy grinding of the teeth. At the thought of this many people choose to do nothing and just live with crooked teeth they are unhappy with.

However the Inman Aligner can give an ideal alternative. Because it works so quickly and efficiently, if you don't like the idea of having brackets stuck to your teeth or waiting months and months for a clear brace to work, you can now have your front teeth straightened in as little as 6 -12 weeks.

The Inman Aligner is not just an orthodontic appliance. Many dentists are calling it the "missing link between orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry."

It has also been described as the "Greatest Innovation in Cosmetic Dentistry since the porcelain veneer".
Not every case is possible and of course there are limitations, but if you are a suitable candidate you could get a fantastic smile in a matter of weeks and at far less cost with no preparation needed to your teeth

As mentioned in the April Newsletter, Tesco have an absolutely fantastic dental scheme at the moment. You pay £16.95 per person per month and after a small grace period, you can claim 100% back on £200 worth of exams and hygiene treatment and 80% back on the next £1800 of any treatment. In other words, you pay £16.95 per month and can then have £2000 of treatment for which you can claim back £1640. No catches. Underwritten by AXA PPP, it is a phenomenal deal which I don’t imagine will be available for long. Many of our clients have signed up and used it and are delighted with the policy and even more delighted getting between 80%-100% of their fees re-imbursed.

Meanwhile at Home . . .

My annual camping in the New Forest was a washout as per usual. Torrential rain, leaky tents and dampness…… the pleasures of an English July. We did, however, have much better weather for the Burns annual trip to Italy. This year, we visited the Cinque Terre in Italy. The Cinque Terre are 5 coastal villages (all about 1km apart) on a small stretch of the Italian Riviera that have been made a World heritage Site, due to their history and beauty. It was a fantastic week visiting these little villages as well as the cursory Pizza restaurants and Gelateria. Batteries recharged, its back to work.
